Salem Turmeric Usage

Turmeric comes from Ginger's family. It is native of South Asia. In Europe it is considered as saffron from India or Indian Saffron because it can be used as substitute of expensive saffron spice.

 Eroda, Tamilnadu is largest producer of Turmeric and most important trading center of turmeric in Asia. Erode is known is Yellow City too. Also Sangli is second largest town of Maharashtra in terms of trading of Turmeric.

In India language, Turmeric is called as Haldi or Haridra. Turmeric is widely used in culinary, mainly in India and Asian continents as flavor and coloring content. Turmeric is used in each and every vegetable dishes including meat. Traditionally, turmeric used to give color to boiled white rice as golden color.

In Goa and Dakshin Karnataka, turmeric plant leaf is used to prepare special sweet dishes, rice flour and coconut jaggery mixture, and then closing and steaming in a special copper steamer.
